Our Story: From Humble Beginnings

K Bassam Jewellery Services began in 1991, when Kevin Bassam opened his first shop in Court Street, Stourbridge, with the help of The Prince’s Trust. What started as one small shop grew through Kevin’s passion for jewellery, craftsmanship and personal service. In 2000, K Bassam Jewellers opened in Kidderminster, followed by Bromsgrove in 2010, creating the three family-run shops we have today.

Where the passion began

Kevin’s interest in jewellery started long before K Bassam Jewellers opened its doors. From a young age, he had a keen interest in metalwork and art and became the first student at his school to be put forward for an O Level in Metalwork.

On Saturdays, Kevin would catch the bus from his home village of Wall Heath to Wolverhampton, where he spent time working alongside his uncle, a jeweller. He began taking broken jewellery belonging to family friends with him to repair, and before long had built up so much work that the shop owner told him he would have to start paying rent for the use of the tools and workspace.

Those small repair jobs became Kevin’s first steps into business and helped turn an early interest in precious metals into a lifelong passion for jewellery.

Learning the craft

After leaving school, Kevin knew that jewellery was the path he wanted to follow. Following practical and written examinations, he gained a place at the Birmingham School of Jewellery.

Over the years that followed, Kevin combined his studies with working part-time in a Stourbridge jewellers, taking day-release and evening classes while developing his skills at the bench.

His dedication to the craft was recognised with a British Jeweller Award for pieces he produced from the initial design through to hand-making, stone setting and finishing.

Traditional craftsmanship today

The skills and enthusiasm that started K Bassam Jewellers remain at the heart of the business today. Across our shops in Stourbridge, Kidderminster and Bromsgrove, customers can still see skilled jewellery craftspeople working in a traditional workshop environment.

Our teams undertake a wide variety of jewellery repairs, alterations and restoration work, with many repairs carried out on site. We also create bespoke jewellery, working closely with customers to turn their ideas into individual pieces designed to be treasured for years to come.

It is this combination of traditional craftsmanship, experience and personal service that continues to define K Bassam Jewellers today.
